In today’s news round-up, Oncam Grandeye has announced that its OnVu360 surveillance app has been downloaded more than 10,000 times since its release in November 2012. The app offers users access to the de-warping functions of the company’s award-winning 360-degree surveillance cameras via their mobile device. In application news, ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless locking solution has been fitted as part of an access control solution at Thames Reach’s Employment Academy in London. One of the challenges faced in the project was preserving the aesthetic of the Grade II listed Victorian building, whilst still providing a practical and effective security solution.

In other application news, IDIS are to provide DirectIP video surveillance solutions for Tavcom’s training centre in Bishops Waltham in the UK, as part of the centre’s renovation. Tavcom’s training experts will use DirectIP to help educate security industry professionals on how to best take advantage of the advanced technology built into the latest generation security products and solutions. Over in Scotland, Panasonic cameras were chosen to film pioneering Channel 4 documentary “The Murder Trial”. This is the first time that remotely-operated cameras have been placed inside a British criminal court to capture a criminal trial in its entirety and the AW-HE120 PTZ cameras were chosen due to their compact and discreet design, silent operation and wide range of focal angles and distances. Finally, the organisers of Defence and Security Equipment International are set to welcome the largest Royal Air Force presence to ExCeL London later this year. On today’s news round-up, Security Management Resources (SMR) Group has announced that James Butler will be joining their London-based team as the new Director. Also in corporate news, the Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) has appointed Larry Lien as its new Chairman and Marine Drive as Vice Chairman. Lien will work with the PSIA Board to develop strategies that maintain the organisation’s leadership position. In application news, Cassidian’s technology has been chosen for the Pope’s visit to Spain for World Youth Day (WYD). This event has been probably the most demanding for the national mobile voice and data communications network SIRDEE (Sistema de Radiocomunicaciones Digitales de Emergencia del Estado) in terms of the concentration of people being protected.

Over in the UK, the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEi 2011) is showcasing the latest equipment and systems for the defence and security industry. With over 1,300 exhibitors, DSEi is the world’s largest integrated defence and security expo.
