In events news, the 7th Asia-Pacific Security Forum & Exhibition, which took place last week in China, saw a 7.4% increase in visitors compared to the 2012 event. The conference featured 24 high-level educational sessions provided by a variety of speakers. In corporate news, Axis Security has achieved the highest Security Industry Association (SIA) Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) score in its history, as well as one of the highest ever scores attained by a manned guarding company. Finally, ONVIF has hosted its annual membership meeting in Shenzhen, China. The system will enable the airport to secure its Airfield Operations Area (AOA). In other corporate news, AMG Systems and DVS have entered a partnership, which sees DVS marketing the AMG-Panogenics 5 megapixel 360 degree PanoCam360 camera range. Finally, Qccess Air@-EL Series’ “Green”, eco-friendly products have been installed at Kumho Richensia Building in Seoul, Korea. In today’s news round-up, Nexus Technology has merged with vps ID Systeme, the identity management specialist. The merger was driven by vps ID Systeme’s employees and customers following several years of collaboration between the companies. In events news, Axis Security has been selected as a finalist in three categories at this year’s Security Excellence Awards. The categories are “Security Guarding Company of the Year”, “ACS Champion of the Year”, and “Security Manager of the Year”. Trophies will be awarded to the winners in October at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane.

In application news, Fastlane turnstiles have been installed at the Mary Rose Museum as part of a £27 million new facility. The Glasswing units which replicate the original shape of the Mary Rose allow users to access the museum without any staff intervention. In today’s news round-up, security industry professionals have spoken out in defence of ‘zero-hours’ contracts, following a pledge from the Government to review such arrangements. In a recent British Security Industry Association survey, 79.2% of the BSIA’s members agreed with the concept of zero hours contracts, citing increased flexibility and the ability to meet unexpected demand as key benefits. In application news, DIGIEVER and VIVOTEK have partnered to supply the security system for a Latvian plywood factory. In addition to using it as a security tool, the factory is using the system to improve the efficiency of its manufacturing processes.

In other application news, Axis Security has been awarded a contract to provide CCTV monitoring and access control to the British Pipeline Agency control centre in Kingsbury, Staffordshire. The project will start with an initial monitoring of three stations and will extend to the remaining 13 stations by 2015, once system installations are complete. In corporate news, a new IMS Research report, entitled “The World Market for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment” predicts that revenue for network video will overtake analogue for the first time in 2014. Analogue cameras are still forecast to continue outselling network cameras in terms of number purchased until 2017. Finally, API Holographics has completed the first phase of redevelopment at its Salford site. In application news, Milestone video surveillance software is helping to manage traffic activities in Galway City, Ireland. Galway City Council has deployed Milestone XProtect Smart Client to manage all cameras across a large video wall, including pant-tilt-zoom (PTZ) control and zoom for detailed views of live and recorded video. In addition, Milestone Mobile has proved perfect for supporting staff using tablets and smartphones.

In other application news, The Calico Group, a leading housing group in East Lancashire, has contracted Connexion2 to provide its award-winning and ACPO accredited Identicom lone worker device (LWD). Connexion2 has supplied a total of 150 Identicom devices to Calico including a number of units with “Man Down” detection. Over in Morocco, G4S has signed a new contract with the Tangier Med Port Authority and Tangier Med Special Agency to deliver a broad range of integrated security solutions. The three-year contract, worth approximately £10 million in total turnover, will see G4S protect the port’s assets, commodities and people. Finally, Axis Security will provide Wulfrun shopping centre in the UK with 228 weekly manned guarding hours.
