In today’s news round-up, ASSA ABLOY Security Doors has designed, manufactured and installed a range of security doors for projects across London. The projects include the installation of fire doorsets in the Shard and supplying the London Underground’s Bond Street Tube Station with its specialist steel doorsets. In corporate news, TDSi is looking towards the education sector as a market for expansion and growth. According to IMS Research, current estimates value the access control market for education in the EMEA region at £46M.

Over in Norway, law firm Simonsen VogtWiig is deploying the Zwipe biometric card for managing access to its doors and printers. The biometric card lets users at the firm’s Filipstad Bygge address authenticate themselves directly on the card through a fingerprint. In other corporate news, the number of smart cities worldwide will quadruple within a 12-year period that started last year, according to a report by IHS. This increase will occur as local governments work with the private sector to cope with a multitude of challenges confronting urban centres. Finally, Urmet has supplied an IP video door-entry solution to a prestigious residential development in Kensington, London. The IPervoice system features a 2-door controller called the “PIO” Controller and two Wiegand readers. In today’s news round-up, VIVOTEK has announced it is now an official HDMI adopter. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) technology is the global standard for connecting high-definition equipment, such as HDTVs, personal computers, cameras, camcorders, tablets, gaming consoles, smart phones, and any device with an HD signal. In application news, ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions has supplied products to the Canal & River Trust, which takes care of 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales. ASSA access control products will be fitted throughout the Trust’s facilities, including pump houses, front gates and meeting rooms.

In events news, Dallmeier will host an “Octoberfest” at Security Essen 2014 to celebrate its 30th anniversary. On every day of Security Essen, visitors will be able to sample typical German sausages such as Weisswurst and Regensburger Knacker, as well as fresh pretzels and Bavarian Weltenburger beer. In corporate news, Winsted Corporation has added Titan Products Group to its Canadian representative network. Titan Products Group provides the security industry with high-tech software, video and data technology for security and surveillance monitoring. Finally, Xentry Systems Integration has named Andy Deems as its new Account Executive. Lars said Milestone will take this step to accelerate the growth of its VMS business. In events news, IDIS and Pro-Vision announced that they have signed a strategic alliance and distribution agreement during this year’s IFSEC. Pro-Vision will provide and support the full end-to-end IDIS DirectIP suite.

In application news, access control products and solutions from HID Global and ASSA ABLOY have been used to secure 6 of the 12 stadiums in Brazil hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup. HID Global and ASSA ABLOY products are being used at new stadiums in Fortaleza, Natal, Recife, Curitiba, and Brasilia, as well as at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. In events news, Dahua has announced that its 3.0 megapixel intelligent video spot detector (DH-ITC304) was awarded ITS Golden Lion at ITS 2014. The online functionality enables facilities managers at Technology Park Písek to conduct instant security audits, and to issue or revoke access rights at the click of a mouse. Finally, Hikvision has been ranked as the world’s largest CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment provider in 2013 by IHS, with a dominant 10.9% market share. Over in Morocco, AxxonSoft has recently announced the opening of an office in Casablanca. The new office in Morocco’s most populous city is the latest step in the company’s long-term plans for expansion in the country, encouraged by growing opportunities on the North Africa market. In today’s weekly news round-up, MOBOTIX presented its first thermographic camera, the M15D-Thermal at Light+Building 2014 in Frankfurt. The company also demonstrated its current 5-megapixel camera platform and introduced new software developments as well as solutions in the area of building technology. Over in Taiwan, Dahua announced that its DH-IPC-HF5281 network camera has won the “IP Camera Excellence Award” at Secutech Taipei 2014. This is the third year in a row that Dahua’s products have been recognised by international security professionals.

In other events news, ASSA ABLOY will demonstrate its innovative range of access control and door security solutions at this year’s IFSEC International. Also on display will be leading edge products from brands in the Group’s portfolio including Abloy, Eff-Eff, Mul-T-Lock, Traka and Yale. Over in the Netherlands, the ASIS Welcome Party powered by Nedap took place at the World Forum on the 1st of April.  The event was held to kick off the 13th edition of the ASIS European Security Conference in The Hague. Finally, HID Global has released an infographic illustrating the results of a survey it conducted on physical access control. The survey of 600 respondents revealed enterprise end users’ perceptions about the importance of industry best practices and how well organisations feel they can defend against increasingly dangerous and costly security threats. Read more security news…
