In today’s news round-up, HID Global has announced that the company and two of its consortium partners have received one of four U.S. cyber security grants, awarded through President Obama’s National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace initiative. The grants will be used to develop systems that enable mobile phones and devices to carry credentials for online identification and improve consumer privacy, security and convenience. In application news, AG Neovo’s SX-19P displays are being used aboard a Taiwanese fleet of deep-sea fishing vessels. The displays were chosen for their durability, thanks to their IP22 housing protection. Over in Brazil, Aimetis Corp recently announced that Aimetis Symphony has been deployed as the video management software platform for Brasilia International Airport. Aimetis Symphony provides the airport with a single platform for upgrading the existing CCTV system to an IP network that can be expanded as needed. Finally, AMG Systems and Meyertech have announced a technology partnership that will see the AMG-Panogenics 5 megapixel 360 degree PanoCam360 camera range integrated with Meyertech’s FUSION-Core-Solar VMS. At the top of the pile, IMS Research ranked Milestone Systems as the number one provider of open platform IP video management software in a report entitled “The World Market for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment – 2010 Edition”. The same report also placed Aimetis 7th globally for network video management software.

Hikvision revealed that it will debut its new network video recorder, the DS-9616NI-SH, at Security Essen next month, and also on show will be QNAP’s range of network surveillance solutions. Finally, AD Group CEO Mike Newton has won his second Le Mans Series title, as part of a team with Andy Wallace and Ben Collins, better known as “The Stig” from BBC’s Top Gear. The company was also placed third in the category of Open Platform VMS vendors. Hamper legends Fortnum & Mason are to have their property protected by over 80 network cameras powered by Synectics.

Staying with retail, Newcastle’s Eldon Square mall, featuring top brands like John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, has seen the installation of Raytec’s Voyager 2 ANPR cameras. Aimetis have seen their Aimetis Symphony software put in all Royal Bam Group construction sites in order to fend off vandals, and the MOBOTIX IP camera is capturing images of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, provider of the ash clouds that shut down many European airports earlier this year, on a live webcam.
