At the World Expo 2010, Hikvision’s high definition (HD) CCTV cameras are monitoring 3.2 square miles of the site. We bring you the security week that was. One of the most interesting stories this week came from Theia, who unveiled that their CCTV lenses had played an important part in this year’s FIFA world cup. We also saw the SourceSecurity.com editor’s visit to South Africa in pictures. Earlier in the week, we had news of the births of two foals captured by an innovative online surveillance system from IP eye, with the help of Axis IP cameras.

We start the mid-week round up with news of the births of two foals. The international show jumper Andrew Mizon chose an innovative online surveillance system from IP eye to monitor his mares’ progress, and so captured the births with the help of Axis IP cameras. Also in application news, in one of the busiest and most financially significant regions of the world, the Dutch Ministry of Transport opted to use surveillance software from Optelecom-NKF to monitor traffic.
In corporate news, infinias has signed up NFS Communications, Inc. as their manufacturer’s representative for the territory of New York and northern New Jersey. As the World Cup champions, Spain, celebrate their victory, we bring you news from Theia, who also played a small part in this year’s FIFA World Cup. Theia CCTV lenses were mounted on the Net-Cam system that became central in the controversy surrounding the referee call that denied England a goal against Germany on June 27. Sticking with the sports theme, North American Video has announced the completion of an integrated security installation at the Red Bulls Arena in New Jersey.
In other news, Gallagher showed off its integrated security solution, implemented by Port of Auckland, to the press. IP security solutions distributor, Controlware, offered its praises to the Optex REDWALL Partner Programme, after recognising the help it provided. This week, we take a look at different applications for surveillance systems.
According to Optelecom-NFK, CCTV cameras may be omnipresent in cities, but they are not used for detecting crime alone. Indeed, they are far more useful for ensuring the smooth operation of a city and its transport systems. This is further illustrated by the use of ASL’s IP-based public address system in the London Underground network. By now, over 130 LUL stations rely on ASL’s safety critical voice evacuation systems.
Also in London, Avigilon has installed a high definition megapixel video surveillance system on the Greenwich Peninsula, home to the spectacular O2 complex, in order to monitor traffic, as well as in the 2,350 capacity live music venue inside The O2. The cement and mortar provider Siam City Cement has opted to upgrade its surveillance system with Aimetis’s intelligent video management software. At the port city of Bodrum in Turkey, Proxim Wireless’s WiMAX solution is helping to connect over 70 CCTV cameras.
In Norway, the national rail administrator Jernbaneverket is using ASL’s IP based public address solution to improve quality and intelligibility of PA announcements.
